When it’s time to Twitter, what is the first thing you do when you go on Twitter?

In Twitter lingo, a hashtag is the # sign before a word. This is to make it easier to find tweets that are similar by searching for the hashtag. More information on hashtags can be found at http://hashtags.org/.

When you go to http://search.twitter.com and do a search, you will see a link on the side that says: “Tweet these results.” When you click it, Twitter will put the search quarry into your update box so you can review it before Tweeting it.

I have a unique name, “Yancey” but I have found other “Yanceys’” out there. I’ve become good friends with one on Facebook. Find someone on Twitter with a name like yours and retweeet, @ reply or Direct Message them.

Tell someone they are appreciated, it’s as easy as that. Everyone like to know they are thought of, let that special someone know by just letting them know they are appreciated.

We all have them. For some it’s keyboard shortcuts, for others it’s a mannerism from childhood. Tweet to us and tell us about your favorite slang word.

If you are very active on Twitter you will get a lot of DMs. You can opt-out to some services and that cuts done on it a lot.

But for this goal, @ reply to someone who has auto DMed you. If you don’t get a reply do it again. I’ve done this and found it fun to do. Enjoy.

Be a world diplomat today. The internet and Twitter make it so easy to communicate with those in other countries. Cross a boarder and find someone and greet them, enhance cultural understanding.

This will be harder for some than others but try to RT someone who has just a few followers, preferably someone with less than 100 followers.

Talk with someone about Twitter today. Actually talk with someone, not type to them. Have a conversation about Twitter with someone in the real world today.

This is a great tool for seeing the hourly activity of Twitter’s Trending Topics. Here is a screen shot of the hashtag #tc50 which just burst onto the Trending Topics scene.

Trend Tracker is also good at comparing the trends of several Twitter Trending Tropics. Here you can see “Obama” and “President.” You can scroll using the control under the graph to look backwards along the timeline. I scrolled back to find the beginning spike of activity.

Clicking “tweet locations” will show you a geographic map of the activity. The last 24 hours of activity are “played” across the map.

Using the Palm Trend Tracker is a great way to visually see the activity of Twitter Trending Topics and it’s a fun tool to use.

Click your “Home” button and on the right you will see “Trending Topics.” These are the current keywords that are being tweeted the most. Pick one that sounds interesting but one that you don’t know about and learn more about it. Make a tweet using that Trending Topic.

Face it, some people have better usernames than others. Some have really good usernames. Tweet to, about or RT someone who you think has a cool username.

Have you noticed someone who you think does a good job with Twitter? Let them know! Send them a note letting them know that you think they are a great Twitter-er.

I have some friends who usually only follow those who have more followers then they do. This goal is for them. Today, follow someone who has less followers than you do.

I always like it when someone with more followers than me decides to follow me, I’m guessing others enjoy it as well. Make someones day, follow someone with less Twitter followers than yourself today.

It’s simple, block a spammer today. Sure you can Unfollow but what if they follow you back? If you have an auto-follower, you will be following them again. Just Block them, that takes care of it, you will never see them again.

Instead of Tweeting, take a day and only RT followers’ topics you think are good and that you agree with.

Today’s is a simple goal, just @ reply to someone who you never have @ replied before.

You have to have 2000 followers before you can follow more than 2000 people. If you have 200 people you are following that are NOT following you back then that can hold you back from following more.

People who you follow who are not following you must be special. Who are they?

Today’s DailyTwitGoal is to make a tweet about an actor or actress that you enjoyed in a recent movie.

Here is my example. My wife and I enjoyed the movie “Role Model” and we really liked the character played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse. I did a simple Google search for “Christopher Mintz-Plasse” and the word Twitter and quickly found his Twitter @ address. (@cminzzz)

Today is an easy Twitter goal. Something you should be doing anyway. Find something interesting to ReTweet from someone who has ReTweeted a post from you.

Can you find a Twitter follower of yours who is wearing something blue? Take a look at the pictures of the people following you and search for that something blue. Once you find it, make a Twitter tweet and let us know who you follow that is wearing blue.

If you can not find a Twitter follower who is wearing blue, then find someone to follow who is wearing blue.

Take a look through the pictures of your Twitter followers and see which one jumps out at you. Your goal today is to make a post about who you find. Make a Twitter tweet about which one or more of your Twitter followers you think has a great profile picture!
